LANKA Network Commits To Not Use AI Tools

LANKA Network

July 23, 2026

LANKA Network and its activists declare publicly that we commit to avoiding the use of artificial intelligence (AI), more specifically Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, in all our work spanning from writing to graphic design.

We denounce the use of AI by activists and organisations in all its forms.

Why? AI models are resource hungry technologies that, to be frank, generate ugly and low quality results. In its current form, it is simply not possible for AI to be used ethically in any form of activism.

The use of AI and investments in it are a burden to our environment and energy infrastructure as more and more data centres are built around us. AI steals research and work done by real people and plays its part in expanding the so-called dead internet, on which the content is generated using AI to beat the algorithms.

LANKA Network already has the competence, skills, and abilities in its own human members to create all the ethically sustainable content needed. We strongly believe that “like attracts like” in all activism, meaning that skilled and disciplined active comrades will inspire other comrades to improve their skills and commit to discipline and being active.

What, then, is on the horizon for AI-using activists and activist communities? Whether they want to or not, AI-using activists and communities will end up in a situation where the result of their work is either false, bad or ridiculous. For example, AI-generated images portray minorities in a stereotypical way most of the time whenever minority rights are talked about alongside these kinds of images. This also completely bypasses all community to community -principles, by which image banks created by members of marginalised groups have been compiled for use in activism and actual representation of members of such groups. The use of AI hurts marginalised artists and writers, steals their work and makes the bourgeois AI model owners richer. Worst of all, it estranges those whose rights are being fought for in the first place. Why would a disabled or transgender person want to be part of an activist community that ridicules them and their community with bad and artificial-looking AI images or that externalises communicating their concerns and requests to AI?

Can actions done by using AI even be revolutionary to begin with? In Finland, we are already at a point where people’s organising and activism skills are extremely low compared to other European countries. One of the central parts of revolutionary work is the development and challenging of the knowledge and skills of both individuals and communities. What happens to this development when AI replaces even our written work? In a time where literacy is at an all time low, can we afford to weaken our competence even more by externalising research and even thinking to AI?

In conclusion, AI use is lazy and both ecologically and ethically unsustainable. LANKA Network will continue to make use of our activists’ art in addition to open image banks such as Pexels, which we can warmly recommend to everyone. Lack of options is the most pathetic excuse for AI use, when costless and high quality image banks and literature are abundantly available.
